31st SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
October 31 – November 1, 2026
“Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.”(Matthew 5:12a)From Fr. Andrew
Today we celebrate All Saints’ Day commemorating every holy person in heaven — all the canonized saints as well as countless ordinary people whose names are known only to God. In our catholic church this is a holy day of obligation. This year it falls on a Sunday so you are meeting your obligation. This day gives us the opportunity to call to mind our Christian heroes whose lives give us examples how to live holy lives amidst our daily struggles. We are all called to lives of holiness and long to be in their company. By the grace of God, the salvation won for us by Jesus Christ one day we too will be honored on this day.
This past week has been a good week in the many challenges we face for the coming years. Firstly, by your generous support we have met the fifty-thousand-dollar matching grant goal, thank you. This money will be placed into an interest-bearing account for the next step, paying down our debt to the diocese or a contribution to the Called to Flourish (CTF) campaign. In regard to CTF I have been in discussion with the diocese to move our parish to a later ‘wave’ of the campaign given our current financial status and the lack of a tenant in the school. Regarding the school, another prospect toured our facility last week and as of Tuesday we have an offer. We need to hold our breath just a bit longer as the legal department needs to do its work. So, a lot of things are in play now, meetings need to be set and discussions need to be had. It has been a good week. Thank you again for your prayers and support.
This weekend we will celebrate the sacrament of the sick also known as the anointing of the sick. This sacrament may be received by anyone who has a chronic, serious illness, by anyone preparing for a major surgery, or by anyone in danger of death. The sacrament may be repeated every time a person becomes seriously ill or when their condition worsens. Those experiencing the debilitations of old age also may receive it. Finally, Anointing of the Sick is intended for those who are “at the hour of their death,” because, along with Reconciliation and Viaticum, Anointing of the Sick is one of the sacraments that prepare us for our Heavenly home.
In God’s time, Fr. Andrew
ALL SOULS DAY
Monday is November 2nd, is the Feast of All Souls, the day we remember our dead. We will offer two All Souls Day Masses; 7:30am and 7pm. An All-Souls Day envelope is included with the offering envelopes with space to include the names of the dead you want to be remembered in the Masses.
LITHUANIAN PENSIONERS
The Pensioners will meet for lunch on Thursday November 5th at 12:00pm at the Lithuanian Club, 877 E. 185th St.
TIME CHANGE
This weekend, we change our clocks back to Eastern Standard Time. Before going to bed on Saturday, remember to set your clocks back one hour. If you are an hour early for Mass on Sunday, now you know why.
SPEND TIME WITH THE LORD
All are invited to spend time with the Lord in quiet prayer on Friday November 6th from 8-9am in the church. Spend a few minutes or the whole hour. Spending time in prayer is a great way to grow in your relationship with Christ and to strengthen your prayer life.
TAIZE PRAYER
Our Lady of the Lake Parish (19951 Lake Shore Boulevard) is having an Ecumenical Taize Prayer Service on Wednesday November 4, 2026 at 7:00PM. Taize Prayer uses simple melodies, candles, silence and readings to help us rest in the presence of God. All are welcome.
CEMETERY SUNDAY
Today we celebrate Cemetery Sunday a catholic observance day dedicated to those buried in Catholic cemeteries. The Catholic Cemeteries Association celebrates Mass at several cemeteries to honor and pray for our departed loved ones. This year Cemetery Sunday Masses will be held on November 1, 2026, at 3 pm. For more information, please email Suzi Richter at srichter@clecem.org or visit the Events tabs on our website, www.clecem.org
ELECTION DAY
Tuesday, November 3rd is Election Day, that day that all citizens are called to exercise our right to vote. The polls will be open from 6:30 am until 7:30 pm. As with any “right”, there is a corresponding “duty”. With our right to vote, we have a duty to vote. With 13 hours to vote on Election Day along with absentee ballots and early voting, there should be no reason for a citizen to not perform their civic duty to vote.
NEWS FROM HOLY NAME
Our diocesan Holy Name Societies are sponsoring a spiritual bouquet for Bishop Malesic the weekend of November 14th - 15th. A spiritual bouquet is a tradition among Catholics where prayers and devotions are offered on behalf of another person's intentions. Instead of a bouquet of real flowers, everyone attending Mass during that weekend will be counted as a spiritual flower that will be added to those from other participating parishes to make up Bishop Malesic's bouquet.
NEWS FROM THE CATHOLIC WAR VETERANS
Next Saturday, November 7th in honor of Veterans’ Day, the Catholic War Veterans Post 613 will be gathering for the 5:00 Mass, with the color guard marching in and out of church before and after Mass.
SUNDAY COFFEE
Next Sunday, November 8th we will have our monthly coffee social after the Sunday Masses in the School. You are invited to stop in after Mass on Sunday for refreshments and conversation with fellow parishioners. There is no charge for this, but donations are gladly accepted.
